PRETNI
Spirits of Tragic Departure
PRETNI
Female Spirit Entity
The knowledge presented here is based upon traditional teachings of Tantra, the guidance of my Guru, and experiences gathered during my spiritual journey. These teachings are shared for educational purposes and should not be interpreted as a substitute for proper spiritual guidance. Advanced practices should never be attempted without the blessings and supervision of a qualified spiritual mentor.
Appearance & Form
A Pretni may appear beautiful or ugly depending upon the impressions she carried during life. According to occult lore, a Pretni generally appears like an ordinary woman without any special bodily features to distinguish her from living women. Her complexion can be fair, dark, or wheatish. She is believed to appear in the same style of clothing she wore during life, and young married women are often described wearing ornaments and traditional attire such as sarees.
Voice & Temperament
Her voice is said to resemble that of an ordinary woman without any unusual difference. Her temperament is considered mixed; some are peaceful and helpful, while others are fierce, angry, and troublesome. She is believed to arise from the subtle body of a deceased woman, retaining reflected traits from her lifetime. If a young woman suffered extreme violence, injustice, or a tragic death, powerful emotional impressions may remain attached to her subtle existence. In many folk beliefs, Pretni is considered afraid of Lord Hanuman and sacred Hanuman mantras.
Sacred Offerings
Laddus and sweets. In certain traditions, meat and alcohol are also offered.
Sacred Timing
Saturday and Amavasya (New Moon night).
Divine Abode
Cremation grounds (regarded as their principal domain), abandoned wells, isolated roads, gardens, orchards, under large ancient trees, lonely places, or around human dwellings.
🔱 Signs of Displeasure According to Traditional Tantra
Folk traditions describe several signs attributed to Pretni influence: persistent physical and mental suffering, lack of interest in work, depression, isolation, pain in the shoulders and lower back, disturbed menstrual cycles in women, emotional instability, screaming or violent behavior, repeated dreams involving an unknown woman, or difficulties related to marriage and childbirth. Hostile influence may cause severe bodily pain, damage to particular limbs, and constant disturbances in family life.
These descriptions belong to folklore and traditional belief systems; they should not replace medical, psychological, or professional care.
Prescribed Remedies
According to rural and Tantric traditions, cleansing rituals, protective rites, removal ceremonies (Utara), and Hanuman worship are performed. In cases believed to involve spiritual attachment through marriage rituals, special reverse circumambulation rites are described in certain traditions.
